Datasite ticks ten of the twelve features on our checklist, more than any other provider, and pairs that with ISO 27001, SOC 2 and deal analytics. Quote-only pricing and a demanding setup hold it to third place overall.

Profile re-checked October 2026. Sources: the vendor's own docs, its price page and its security certificates. Method: how we rank.

Plenty of bankers will tell you the room was chosen before they joined the deal, and quite often it was Datasite. A US company since 1999, it is built around investment-banking M&A, and its tags (enterprise, analytics) reflect that. On our checklist it ships ten of twelve features natively, the widest coverage of any provider we track: Q&A, redaction, a mobile app, single sign-on, AI features, document rights control and the rest.

That breadth translates into one of the highest Diligence toolkit marks on our list and a Data protection mark level with iDeals and Intralinks. SOC 2, ISO 27001 and GDPR are all listed. For a sell-side adviser running a large auction, the analytics angle matters too: knowing which bidders opened which folders, and how often, shapes the conversation before second-round bids. Deal support is strong, just short of the very top.

What keeps it third is the way it is bought and adopted. There is no published price and our facts do not list a free trial, so the first step is a sales process. Ease of adoption is among the lowest of the top ten, which reflects a powerful interface that rewards a trained admin more than a first-time user. Gaps on the checklist are small: no e-signature and no public API in our facts.

Strengths and gaps

Where it scores well

  • Ten of twelve checklist features, the widest native coverage on our list.
  • SOC 2, ISO 27001 and GDPR, with redaction, document rights control and SSO.
  • AI features and analytics aimed at bank-run sale processes.
  • A mobile app, which most full diligence rooms on our list do not list.

Where it slips

  • Quote-only pricing and no free trial in our facts.
  • One of the lower Ease of adoption marks in the top ten; plan for admin training.
  • No e-signature or public API listed.

A good fit for

  • Investment banks running large, multi-bidder auctions.
  • Enterprise corporate development teams that want analytics on bidder activity.
  • Processes where reviewers need a mobile app alongside the browser.

Look elsewhere if

  • You want to open a room today and evaluate it without a sales call.
  • Budget certainty matters more than the widest possible feature set.

Questions buyers ask about Datasite

Why is Datasite not ranked first?

Its toolkit and protection marks are at the top of the list. It loses ground on Ease of adoption and Cost predictability, because pricing is quote-only and setup is heavier than the self-serve rooms.

Does Datasite have AI features?

Yes, our facts list AI features, alongside analytics on reviewer activity. Ask the vendor to show which tasks the AI covers on your own document set.

Does Datasite offer e-signature?

Not in our facts. Most deal teams pair it with a separate signing tool at closing.
